Glossary

These are some of the most common property investment terms used, which property investors may not come across in everyday life.

Some of these terms can have more than one meaning, so we have applied the definition which applies most closely to the context it will be applied for, relating to property investment. If you believe there are any other property investment terms which are not included below but would benefit property investors, please contact us with further details of the term and relevant definition for our consideration.

Property Market

For property investment purposes, within any one property market would be grouped all those investment properties which are linked through a common association. For example, two investment properties which would be seen as being in competition for rental and/or re-sale would be viewed as being contained within the same Property Market. Usually, investment properties are deemed as being in the same Property Market due to their locality. Generally, prospective tenants searching for an investment property to rent or prospective buyers searching to purchase a property will do so within the boundaries of one area or Property Market. When conducting essential research into a new property investment opportunity, it is extremely important to also view the local property market as a whole. This can identify any areas where supply exceeds demand for rental and/or re-sale properties and can identify areas where there is a requirement for a certain type of investment property which should benefit from strong demand.
